Good Wood, Good Business

A practical, industry oriented guide to excluding illegal and other unwanted wood from your supply chain

Good Wood Good Business was written after three years solid work to exclude illegal wood from garden furniture production in Vietnam. The work had been successful in breaking new ground inthe fight against illegal logging.

In 1998, there was a huge NGO campaign across Europe targeting companies using wood harvested illegally and with human rights abuses in Cambodia that was then transported to factories in Vietnam where it was made into mass-produced furniture.

Good Wood Good Business describes the practical, on-ground response developed by the then named Tropical Forest Trust, to this campaign.

The approach described in Good Wood Good Business is still being used today and is just as applicable in other commodities where businesses and NGOs seek to procure responsible raw materials.
